My apprentices who worked on blou piet called it Umlingo [roughly translated as magic house]. Art that becomes magic involves talent, skills, dedication, precision to detail, courage and boldness. You cannot fake good art or magic, any more than you can fake a good meal or good music.

When they decided to call their enterprise Vulindlela! it was precisely sorcerous synchronicity, for they didn't know that in 1992 I had been given by the Xhosas, an honorific name, Ah! Vulindlela!

My personal assistant, Welcome Danca, has now become a magician himself. Vulindlela! is ready. Welcome other artists are ready to paint your house, a mural, a plant pot, a taxi, a shebeen, a town hall, your face, your body. I shall keep a watchful eye over what they do for you: I am confident that you will be enchanted.
